So its official, I have been blessed with gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, diabetes runs in my family, my dad and my sister both have type 1 and so I actually thought it was inevitable. Two weeks ago, I did my routine 1 hr glucose test and I failed pretty badly. So, I have been spending the last two weeks pricking my finger to measure my glucose levels after every meal and when I wake up in the morning. I got referred to a perinatologist who was going to officially diagnose me and tell me what to do. I had that appointment on Wednesday and not only do I have diabetes, but my sugar levels are too high! So, I have an appointment on Tuesday with a dietician and they are hoping that I will be able to control my levels with just diet, however, if that doesn't work I will be put on insulin. So, here's hoping. I don't really care either way because I just want the baby to be healthy. But the diet that I am on now (before dietician) is no fun. Here is a list of my daily meals:
Breakfast: 2 eggs with cheese, 1 slice of whole grain toast
Snack 1: string cheese and small fruit
Lunch: 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with lettuce and cheese, small fruit
Snack 2: string cheese and some nuts (and sugar free jello, but don't tell!)
Dinner: some kind of meat, with salad and veggies
Snack 3: 1/2 peanut butter sandwhich on whole grain toast
So, this is all I am eating for the next few days and then I am hoping the dietician will provide me with some more options.
But, there is a shining moment within this whole thing. Since I hadn't seen the perinatologist before, she did an extensive ultrasound. I got to see all the baby's toes and fingers, his little heart with the blood flow, all his organs, brain, and spine. It was amazing! I haven't had one this extensive and I was so excited to see how well he was developing.
Here is a profile shot (he looks like he is blowing bubbles but its the umbilical cord):

So, she told me that the baby is looking strong and is developing the way he should. However, he is already 4 lbs 3 oz (he is supposed to be 3 lbs) and so they are concerned that he will be a 10 lb baby. If he gets that heavy, then I will definitely have a C-section. She said if he weighs 8 or 9 lbs then they will at least let me try, but honestly, do I want to spend the whole day in labor and then just end up with the C-section anyways? I guess we will just find out. I believe that if I get my glucose levels under control that he will slow his growing.
Well, I'm almost at 31 weeks and here is a nice belly shot:

We also finally added our crib sheeting to our crib and I think that it looks really cute. I found the sheeting at Baby Gap. Here are some pictures:

Lastly, Travis tried growing a beard (school is out for the summer and he can get away with that in between stage in summer school) but realized again, as he also does, that the beard thing is not for him. I think he looks very handsome, but he says it just hurts too much. Before he shaved it off, I had to take a picture. What do you think?

Well, we will continue to keep you updated on everything. Only about 9 weeks and counting!
